The newspaper’s publisher, Daily Mirror newspaper Daily Mirror newspaper is in talks to purchase 100 percent of Daily Express group Northern & Shell.
Trinity Mirror said on Friday that it had “ceased discussions to acquire a minority stake” and is rather in talks to buy the newspaper, which includes The Daily Star, in its entirety The Telegraph says.
The board of Trinity Mirror notes that it is now in discussions to acquire 100pc of the publishing assets of Northern & Shell and that it has ceased discussions to acquire a minority stake,” Mirror stated.
Northern & Shell is owned by Richard Desmond, who acquired the title back in the year 2000. PS125m however it is uncertain how much the deal is worth today.
Print media is struggling with a drop in advertising on print and any combination of these could result in savings on costs and a share part of the advertising pool.
This is two times in just 2 years Trinity has started discussions to discuss the matter with Northern & Shell.
A deal that was previously discussed is believed to include the former News of the World editor David Montgomery.
Mr. Montgomery was planning to form a new company together with private equity investors that would own Northern and Shell. Northern & Shell titles, where Trinity would be a minority shareholder.
Industry sources have said Trinity believes that it has the financial strength to stand on its own and create a commercially successful of the deal.
