Spotify buys Heardle, a Wordle spin-off in an interactive push

Spotify has acquired Heardle, a daily music game for Spotify users. The move is part of Spotify’s ongoing expansion of interactive offerings that will keep music fans listening.

This news comes weeks after the company introduced a “karaoke mode”, where users can access lyrics to their favorite songs.

Heardle, a Wordle spinoff, will continue to be a standalone website and will eventually be integrated into Spotify.

Players are asked to guess the opening notes of a song. Six guesses are given, each hint providing a few seconds more music to help them find their next answer.

Spotify’s Global Head for Music Jeremy Erlich described the game as a “tool of musical discovery” and said that the company is always looking for “innovative and playful ways to enhance music discovery.”

“Heardle is a great way to connect millions with old and new songs. . . It also allows them to compete with other friends to see who has the most musical knowledge. The game quickly gained a loyal following since its launch, which aligns with our plans for deeper interactivity across Spotify,” he stated.

Heardle will integrate Spotify in the US, UK, Ireland, and Canada.
