Mariah Carey was the star of the show when I last attended Festival d’ete de Quebec July 2019. She hit all the right notes. But equally impressive were her costume changes, which ranged from a sparkly silver mini to a floor-length, shimmering gown to a long-sleeved, waist-flattering orange and purple dress.

After a three-year break for Maroon 5’s headline act, my expectations were high when I returned to the festival. Adam Levine, the lead singer, was wearing a grey hoodie with baggy pants when he took to the stage.

After a few days, I realized that Levine was on-trend and embracing the loungewear look which has become the late-stage pandemic’s fashion standard. I saw many other artists wearing relaxed looks over the next few days: Halsey wore a baggy pant and a wife beater, Freddie Gibbs wore a camouflage suit and Ruby Da Cherry, a member of $uicideboy$, wore a tee and Converse sneakers, and Tai Verdes wore a wife batter.
